Engineering Expo Sunday at Coppell High School
FROM STAFF REPORTS
Coppell High School’s School of Engineering and the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) Academy are hosting the fifth annual Coppell Engineering Expo from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov, 4, at Coppell High School, located at 185 W. Parkway Blvd. In Coppell.
The event is free to the public. EXPO 2011 attracted over 2,000 attendees, and with an impressive line-up of universities, military academies, corporations and speaker--this year’s event is expected to be just as exciting, according to event planners.
The Engineering Expo builds awareness and excitement for engineering and technology careers among North Texas high school and middle school students. U.S. universities are graduating fewer and fewer engineers each year. It is hoped that this event will help address our country’s growing need for engineering professionals.
Universities and military academies from around the country will meet with students about curriculum, admissions and placement. Representatives will be on hand from Abilene Christian, Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Bradley, Columbia, Drexel, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, Lawrence Tech, Lipscomb, Louisiana Tech, MIT, Drexel, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Prairie View A&M, Purdue, Rice, SMU, Tarleton State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas, US Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marines, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Air Force, West Point and more.
Local corporations and organizations involved with engineering will talk with students and other attendees about engineering careers, career paths, training, hiring, and more. Companies with representatives present will include IBM, Bell Helicopter, RLG Consulting Engineers, Casio America, DEPCO, GoEngineer, RFIC Consultant, National Instruments, Peterbilt Motors, Taylor Deal Aviation, American Society of Women Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, SAE Texas and others.
The Keynote speaker for EXPO 2012 will be Richard Grimsley from DEPCO, LLC (Dependable Education Products Company) discussing Robotics in Education.
This event is for high school students who would like to meet representatives from engineering and technology universities from across the country; middle school students interested in technology and engineering; college students who would like to meet practicing engineers and learn more about career opportunities; and anyone interested in a fun afternoon of fascinating speakers and intriguing technology exhibits.
